Preparation

One of the main thing I have had to consider with going away is my health. I am not the best person for planning ahead but lucky for me I know people who are, and was advised that vaccinations needed to be booked well in advance of leaving. Therefore this week is the start of a round of vaccinations.

I will need :-
1x yellow fever (£60)
3x Rabies prevention at days 0-7-21 (£60 each)
2x Japanese Encephalitis (£80 each)
1x Typhoid (free)
1x Hepatitis A (free)
1x Tetanus booster (free)

Luckily I don’t need Hepatitis B, because of my job, I am already covered.

I am also going to need anti-malaria tablets for the time that I am in Africa and South East Asia (approximately 6 Months)
The GP recommended getting these from Asda Pharmacy, but Asda will only dispense 3months worth of tablets. Therefore I brought them on-line (obviously after doing my research).

The Plan

Hello I’m Michelle. I’m a qualified nurse that has worked in the NHS (England) for over 33 years. I have always enjoyed travelling, but as from September 2019, I will be taking a 12 month sabbatical from work to roam the earth with only a loose plan of where I want to go and how long I will be staying in each place.

I am currently fluctuating between excited and terrified. This is so out of my comfort zone. I will be mainly travelling alone, but hope that I will get to meet up with friends/family on route.
